The Adaptec AEC series of products are intelligent external Raid array controllers which "bridge" between the host(s) I/O interface and multiple back-end device channels. These canister products are designed specifically to provide a packaged RAID array controller that can be configured into standard 5.25" half height device slots within array enclosures. The AEC-4412 series is a SCSI-to-SCSI controller with a single Wide UltraSCSI (single ended or differential) capable interface to the server, and two Wide Single-Ended UltraSCSI-capable interfaces to the hard disk drives. The AEC-7412 series is a Fibre Channel-to-SCSI Bridge. Both products come in a 5.25" enclosure bay compatible canister with cache battery backup, integrated fan and a LCD/LED/push button front panel.
