Configuring Win95 Driver

1. Power off your system, install your Adaptec PCI adapter, and boot up your system.

NOTE for 100 and 10/100 Models ONLY: Upon power up, Windows 95 will recognize your Adaptec adapter as a generic DECchip-based network adapter. This occurs because the Adaptec adapter utilizes the DECchip 21140. You will remove the DEC-based driver during the next step.

2. After booting up Windows 95, go to the Control Panel and choose the Network icon.

NOTE for 100 and 10/100 Models ONLY: Remove the DEC-based network driver from the list of installed components by highlighting the driver and selecting "Remove."

3. Select "Add," and then select "Adapter" as the network component type.

4. Click on "Have Disk" to specify that you are going to install a network driver from a diskette.

5. Specify "javascript:void(null);" as the path to your Windows 95 network driver. You will be prompted to select the model of your Adaptec adapter.

6. Selecting the appropriate model and choose OK. You will return to the Control Panel's network dialog box.

7. Make sure that you have at least one network client and one protocol installed, in addition to the Adaptec adapter driver that will now be listed.

8. If you want to configure any of the parameters (see descriptions of adjustable parameters below) on the Adaptec adapter, highlight the adapter in the list of installed drivers and select Properties.

9. After you have made all desired changes, select OK. Windows 95 will ask if you want to restart your system now. Respond with No, and then shut down and power off your system.

10. Power up your system to allow the Adaptec PCI Windows 95 driver to take effect.

Uninstalling the Adaptec PCI Windows 95 Driver

If you no longer wish to use the Adaptec adapter with Windows 95, remove the driver from the Network dialog box. After shutting shut down your system and powering off, remove your Adaptec adapter. You may now power your system back up.

Full Duplex Operation

The Windows 95 driver for Adaptec's PCI adapters can be run in Full Duplex mode, if you are connecting the adapter to another Full Duplex device. To enable Full Duplex operation, use the "Connection Type" parameter with one of the Full Duplex options described below.

Customizing Adaptec PCI Parameters

To customize any other parameters for the Windows 95 driver, from the Network dialog box within the Control Panel, highlight the Adaptec PCI adapter, choose "Properties," and then choose "Advanced."

Special Notes:

Full Duplex Operation: Change the Connection Type to one of the Full Duplex options.

All custom parameters are described below.

Connection Type

This parameter determines the type of cable to be used with the Adaptec adapter.

Autodetect Default Connection

Detects the cable type and ptimal line speed for the specific Adaptec PCI adapter model in use. This is the default and recommended connection type to select.

INITSENSE/Half Duplex
Autosenses line speed and cable type at adapter initialization time only

INITSENSE/Full Duplex
Autosenses line speed and cable type at adapter initialization time only, with FDE activated

100 Mbps
Sets speed to 100 Mbps manually (10/100 models only)

100 Mbps/Full Duplex
Sets speed to 100 Mbps manually with FDE activated (100 TX and 10/100 TX models only)

10 Mbps/UTP
Sets speed to 10 Mbps UTP manually (10 and 10/100 models only)

10 Mbps/Full Duplex
Sets speed to 10 Mbps UTP manually with FDE activated (10 and 10/100 models with RJ-45 port only)

THIN
Sets cable type to BNC Thinnet manually (Combo and BNC models only)

ACTIVESENSE/Half Duplex
Autosenses line speed and cable type at adapter initialization time and during runtime. For use only when a cable is attached to adapter

ACTIVESENSE/Full Duplex
Autosenses line speed and cable type at adapter initialization time and during runtime, with FDE enabled. For use only when a cable is attached to adapter
