EM100 FX is the first Fast Ethernet PCI adapter to support the IEEE 100BASE-FX (fiber optic cabling) standard. The fiber optic interface makes EM100 FX ideal for use in electrically noisy environments such as building risers and factory floors, and also in backbone environments where longer cabling distances are required. For maximum throughput, EM100 FX includes Full Duplex Fast Ethernet (FDFE) capability which doubles the cumulative system throughput rate in switched or dedicated backbone environments. FDFE capability is easily enabled via software configuration.

Extended distance with familiar technology

Using the familiar Fast Ethernet standard, EM100 FX can extend networks to 400 meters in Half Duplex, and 2 kilometers in Full Duplex (200 Mbits/sec), mode. EM100 FX lets you leverage the large bandwidth and distance potential of fiber optic cabling using the same Ethernet packets you are already using; costly FDDI to Ethernet protocol translations are no longer necessary.

Connector Options

The EM100 FX achieves universal fiber optic cable connectivity by providing either an ST (twist-on) connector, for preexisting fiber optic cable and connectors, or the newer SC (push-on) connector, for newer cable installations. Both interfaces use the same multimode fiber cabling and support Full Duplex operation.

Ten times faster than traditional 10 Mbits/sec Ethernet adapters, EM100 FX Fast Ethernet is ideal for resource-intensive graphics, multimedia, Microsoft Windows, and mission-critical applications which need high throughput and low CPU utilization to power large amounts of data across the network.

Cogent offers Ethernet products to meet every adapter and repeater environment, including 10BASE-2, 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 100BASE-T4, and 100BASE-FX (fiber).
