Windows for Workgroups Driver

The Windows for Workgroups *.386 file supports all Adaptec PCI single port adapters.

You may use any of the following drivers for Windows for Workgroups:

DOS ODI

DOS NDIS 2.0

Windows 32-bit *.386 file (NDIS 3.0)

The OEMSETUP file located in the \WINDOWS subdirectory supports installation and configuration of any of these three drivers.

To Install and Configure the Windows for Workgroups Driver

Follow the instructions below to install the Windows for Workgroups driver for your Adaptec PCI adapter.

1. Go to the the Main program group and double-click on the Windows Setup icon. From underneath the Options menu, select Change Network Settings.

2. From the Network Setup dialog box, click on the Drivers button.

3. Choose the Add Adapter button.

4. From the list of adapters provided, select Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter.

5. Select the drive where your Adaptec driver diskette is located and select the \WINDOWS subdirectory as the install path. Choose OK.

6. Select your Adaptec PCI adapter from the list of adapters provided, and then choose OK.

Note that you can select either to use the NDIS 3.0 (32-bit) driver, or the DOS ODI or DOS NDIS driver.

NDIS 3.0

If you want to use the NDIS 3.0 driver, you should choose either the EM960 PCI adapter, or the EM1x0 adapter (representing all other Adaptec single port adapters)

NDIS 2.0 and DOS ODI

If you want to use the NDIS 2.0 or DOS ODI driver, you should select the last option in the list shown.

After deciding upon your selection, choose OK.

7. After choosing OK, you can highlight your Adaptec adapter in the list of network drivers, and then choose setup, to edit the network adapter settings (see details on the NDIS 3.0 settings below).

For the non-NDIS 3.0 drivers, use this setup option to select between DOS ODI and DOS NDIS. The Driver Type option at the bottom of the Setup window allows you to choose between NDIS and ODI.

8. After making any driver setup changes, choose Close to go back to the previous window. Click OK again to exit from the network driver install window. At this point, any necessary drivers will be copied to your system from the Windows for Workgroups diskettes and your Adaptec diskette.

9. You will be prompted to reboot for your new driver to take effect.

Customizing eMASTER+ PCI NDIS 3.0 Parameters

Your Adaptec adapter will run well using the default values for the parameters that follow. The NDIS 3.0 EMPCI.386 driver supports the parameters below.

If you are using the NDIS 2.0 or DOS ODI driver with Windows for Workgroups, see the files DOSODI.TXT and NDIS.TXT in \README for parameter information.

Special Parameter Notes:
