AAA-13xSA Upgrade Tips

Note: The upgrade will add additional Operating System support Novell NetWare 5.0. With this upgrade there will no longer be support for Windows NT 3.51, Novell NetWare 3.12, IPX/SPX network protocol and Windows 3.1 for remote client interface for CIO (CIO 4.01 is a Win32 based only). This upgrade does not add cache capability or Ultra 2 support to the hardware.

Steps to get the most from your FTP Site download of the Array1000U2 Family version 4.2 release.

Note: To upgrade to the Array1000U2 V4.2 you must update the Arrayconfig utiltiy, BIOS, Drivers and CIO software.

Step 1. Click on each of the 5 filenames below to download the files required for the upgrade.

  • Format 5 diskettes and extract these files to them.

  • The files AAAU2ARCONFIGV42.EXE and AAAU2BIOSV42.EXE should be extracted to DOS bootable diskettes.

  • The file CIOCLIENT401.EXE is too large for a diskette and should be extracted to your hard drive.

Step 2. If the AAA-131SA or AAA-133SA is being used in an existing Windows NT 4.0 system update the NT 4.0 CDA1000.sys driver to v4.2 first with the Array1000U2 Family Manager Set v4.2 Driver Disk for Win NT 4.0 and Novell NetWare 4.11/5.0. After the driver has been updated shut down Windows NT, then proceed to the BIOS v4.2 upgrade in step 3. If this is a fresh operating system install, then skip step 2 and proceed to step 3.

Step 3. Upgrade the AAA-131SA or AAA-133SA BIOS to V4.2.
BIOS Upgrade detailed instructions.

  • Boot your system and at the AAA-13XSA BIOS banner, hit the "F6" Key to enter the SCSISelect utility. Once in the SCSISelect utility hit the "F6" key to reset the host adapter to defaults.

  • Boot to the Dos bootable diskette that contains the extracted AAAU2BIOSV42.EXE files. The BIOS upgrade utility will automatically come up. Upgrade the BIOS to v4.2. Warning do not power off your system during the BIOS flash.

  • Once the BIOS flash is completed reboot your system, upon reboot at the AAA-13XSA BIOS banner hit the "F6" key to enter SCSISelect. Once in SCSISelect hit the "F6" key to reset the host adapter to the defaults. Your bios should now be at version 4.20.23.

  • If this is a fresh operating system installation proceed to step 4 to create your array.

  • If you are upgrading an existing NT 4.0 or Novell NetWare 4.11 system proceed to step 5.

Step 4. Insert Array configuration utility v4.2 diskette in drive A: and reboot the system

  • To create an Array, select Main Menu, then Disk Array Operations, select "Create Array"

  • Once the Array has been created you must select "Initialize the Array to Zero" to complete Array creation. Reboot the system.

  • Proceed to step 6 for a fresh operating system install.

Step 5. Update the NT 4.0 and Novell NetWare 4.11 drivers to version 4.2.

  • Windows NT 4.0: If this is an existing Windows NT 4.0 system, the driver should have been updated in step 2. If this was not done then update the driver now. Use the Array1000U2 Family Manager Set v4.2 Driver Disk for Win NT 4.0 and Novell NetWare 4.11/5.0. To complete the Array1000U2 V4.2 upgrade you must install CIO v4.01. Proceed to step 7 for CIO upgrade instructions.
  • Novell NetWare 4.11: If this is an existing Novell NetWare 4.11 system, copy the updated drivers files, cda1000h.ham, cda1000h.ddi, nbi.nlm, nwpa.nlm and nwpaload.nlm from A:\Netware\v4_1x on the Array1000U2 Family Manager Set v4.2 driver diskette for Win NT 4.0 and Novell NetWare 4.11/5.0 to the C:\Nwserver subdirectory. To complete the Array1000U2 v4.2 upgrade you must install the CIO v4.01. Proceed to step 7 for CIO upgrade instructions.

Step 6. Fresh Operating System install for Windows NT 4.0 and Novell NetWare 4.11/5.0

    Windows NT 4.0:
  • Boot to the Windows NT boot diskettes or CD.
  • When the message "NT is Inspecting your hardware" hit the "F6" key to skip detection.
  • When prompted select "S" to specify, then O for other.
  • Insert the Array1000U2 Family Manager Set v4.2 for Win NT and Novell NetWare 4.11/5.0 driver diskette.
  • Select the CDA1000 to load the driver.
  • Finish installing NT and Reboot.
  • Proceed to step 8 for CIO 4.01 installation instructions
    Novell NetWare 4.11 and 4.2:
  • Load the DOS drivers for the CD-ROM you will be using.
  • Insert Novell NetWare CD, at DOS prompt type Install press Enter.
  • Follow the procedures in your Novell NetWare Documentation for installing a new server.
  • When prompted to load an SMP Module select NO
  • When prompted to select a disk driver press Enter, then Insert to install unlisted driver.
  • Insert the Array1000U2 Family Manager Set v4.2 diskette, press F3 and specify path to the Cda1000h.ham driver. Path is A:\netware\v4_1x. for Novell NetWare 4.2, A:\netware
  • Select cda1000h.ham press Enter
  • When prompted to save existing files, C:\nwserver\nbi.nlm, C:\nwserver\nwpaload.nlm and C:\nwserver\nwpa.nlm select NO.
  • When prompted, select Select/Modify driver parameters.
  • Enter a valid slot number, press Enter to save field data.
  • Press "F10" to save parameter settings.
  • When prompted, select Save parameters and continue.
  • Select No for additional drivers
  • Select Continue Installation
  • Proceed to step 8 for CIO 4.01 installation instructions
    Novell NetWare 5.0:
  • Load the Dos drivers for the CD-ROM you will be using.
  • Insert the Novell NetWare 5.0 CD, at DOS prompt type Install press Enter.
  • Follow the procedures in your Novell NetWare Documentation for installing a new server
  • From the "Welcome to the NetWare sever installation" screen, press F2 for Advanced Settings; change Load server at reboot: from Yes to No and continue with installation.
  • When Novell NetWare detects device drivers for the server, you are prompted to Add, Change or Delete drivers as needed:
    - Delete any Multiple Processor Support module that is detected,
    - Delete the Storage Adapters drivers for the adapters that are not present in your system.
  • Insert the Array1000U2 Family Manager Set v4.2 diskette.
  • Select Storage Adapters press Enter, to add Storage Adapter driver, press Insert
  • Press Insert again to add an unlisted driver.
  • Press F3 to specify a different path.
  • Enter the following path A:\NetWare
  • Select Return to Driver Summary, press Enter. CDA1000 is listed as your storage adapter.
  • Select Continue
  • Follow the procedures in your Novell NetWare documentation to complete the installation
  • Proceed to step 8 for CIO 4.01 installation instructions.

Step 7. CIO v4.01 upgrade instructions for Windows NT 4.0 and Novell NetWare 4.11

    Windows NT 4.0:
  • Uninstall CIO v3.3 and delete the CIO directory
  • Install CIO v4.01, The file CIOCLIENT401.EXE should have downloaded and extracted, the contents are folders disk1, disk2, disk3 and disk4.
  • Copy each folder to a separate diskette labeled CIO v4.01 disk 1, disk 2, disk 3 and disk 4.
  • Insert CIO v4.01 diskette in floppy A:
  • Open Windows NT explorer, select A:
  • Start CIO 4.01 installation by double-clicking on A:\setup.exe insert disk 2, disk3 and disk 4 when prompted to complete CIO 4.01 installation.
    Novell NetWare 4.11: (CIO must be installed at the server and client; the array can only be maintained at the client)
  • Uninstall CIO v3.3 (via autoexec.ncf) remove the entries (RPCSTART, IOMGR.NCF and IOMGRRPC.NCF) from autoexec.ncf.
  • Uninstall TIRPC
  • Install TIRPC and CIO v4.01 on Novell NetWare Server
  • Follow the Novell NetWare 4.11 installation instructions in the AAA-130SA Installation and Hardware Guide pages 5-8, 5-9, 5-10 for installing TIRPC and CIO.
  • Follow the instructions on page 6-2 and 6-3 for installing the CIO client software.

  • You must install CIOCLIENT401.EXE at Client (Windows 95/98 or Windows NT workstation) to manage the server array.

Step 8. CIO 4.01 installation for Windows NT 4.0 and Novell NetWare 4.11/5.0.

    Windows NT 4.0:
  • Install CIO v4.01, The file CIOCLIENT401.EXE should have downloaded and extracted, the contents were folders disk1, disk2, disk3 and disk4. Copy each folder to a separate diskette labeled CIO v4.01 disk 1, disk 2, disk 3 and disk 4.
  • Insert CIO v4.01 disk 1 in floppy A: open Windows NT explorer, select A:
  • Start CIO 4.01 installation by double-clicking on A:\setup.exe insert disk 2, disk3 and disk 4
  • When prompted to complete the CIO installation.
    Novell NetWare 4.11:
  • Install TIRPC then CIO v4.01software on Novell NetWare server
  • Follow the Novell NetWare 4.11 installation instructions in the AAA-130SA Installation and Hardware Guide pages 5-8, 5-9, 5-10 for installing TIRPC and CIO.
  • Follow the instructions on page 6-2 and 6-3 for installing the CIO client software.

  • You must install CIOCLIENT401.EXE at Client (Windows 95/98 or Windows NT workstation) to manage the server array.
    Novell NetWare 5.0:
  • Install the TIRPC then CIO v4.01 software on the Novell NetWare server.
  • For instructions download the CIO v4 user guide from the Adaptec support web site at User's Guide, refer to pages 2-18, 2-19 and 2-20.
  • You must install CIOCLIENT401.EXE at Client (Windows 95/98 or Windows NT workstation) to manage the server array.

Note: CIO Server Management Software must be installed which will load NLM's necessary for workstation to access and manage the array. There is no array management through the server. Copy NWCIO401.EXE from diskette to the root of C: in DOS on the Novell NetWare server, execute the file on C: to use when installing in Novell NetWare.
